Love, Laughter, and a Little Bit of Trouble (Part 4)

The Moment Everything Changed

A few weeks later, Jake found Emma sitting alone on the school rooftop, a book in her lap but her eyes lost in thought.

"Hey, bookworm," he said, plopping down beside her. "You okay?"

Emma hesitated before sighing. "It’s just… I always planned for the future. College, grades, my career. I never thought about…" She trailed off, chewing on her lip.

Jake tilted his head. "Never thought about what?"

She glanced at him, her heart pounding. "Liking someone."

Jake blinked. Then, very slowly, a smirk crept onto his lips. "So… you do like me."Emma groaned. "I walked right into that, didn’t I?"

Jake chuckled but reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers. "You know, you make this really hard for me."

"Make what hard?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Not kissing you."

Emma’s breath hitched, and before she could overthink it, Jake leaned in, closing the space between them.

The moment their lips met, Emma forgot about everything—grades, books, the future. The only thing that mattered was Jake and the way he kissed her like she was the only thing he had ever wanted.
